This year will see the building of a Mental Health Intensive Care Unit and
a 'Pathways Home' redevelopment at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. This section of our website will keep you
informed about our redevelopment progress.
Building Projects: HOPE (Hornsby Obstetrics Paediatrics Emergency) building is complete
If you’ve walked down Palmerston Road lately you will have seen that the new $23 million
two-storey Maternity, Pediatrics and Emergency building is complete, with
services now fully operational in the new location. The building was officially opened by the Minister for Health on 2 March 2007.
The new building includes a new four-bed, short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre
(PECC), one of nine new PECCs in NSW. The PECC operates in the new Emergency Department
and offers permanent mental health staff in Emergency, full clinical assessment at the point of
intake and active discharge planning.
The new building gives a vital lift to staff, offering them a new working environment to continue their
high standards of care.
Mental Health ICU underway
Construction of the new 12 bed Mental Health ICU and Drug and Alcohol service is now underway.
A formal start-up meeting of all the key players was held in late 2006.
The builder is Reed Constructions – who also built the HOPE project – so there is great
benefit in having already been working with Reed for the past year.
The MHICU project duration is less than 26 weeks, so we should again see things move quite
quickly from now.
With so much activity on campus, parking has been a bit stretched at times, however, we are
fortunate in Hornsby that there is a large amount of all-day, off-street parking available. Your patience is
appreciated.
Leighton Lodge.
Refurbishment of Leighton Lodge will be done under 'Pathways Home' project, allowing co-location of our aged care services.
MHICU
The Mental Health Intensive Care Unit (MHICU) is due for completion March 2007.
