Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital has two inpatient
rehabilitation and aged care assessment units managed by the Rehabilitation and Aged Care
Service. The units are committed to providing high quality, individual therapy programs for
older people and people with disability, to improve their independence and function,
assisting them to live independently.
Who are we?
Our two inpatient rehabilitation and aged care assessment units, Mary Giles Ward and
Geraghty Ward, each have 20 beds. We are staffed by a multi disciplinary team including
physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, nurses and doctors with input
from other health care professionals such as speech pathologists and dietitians.
What do we do?
The team provides assessment and rehabilitation programs, usually following directly on
from an acute hospital admission. The local doctor may request admission to the ward
directly from home, for example when an intensive rehabilitation program is required for a
patient to improve functional levels. Our staff endeavour to keep family involved with
therapy, progress and likely outcomes of treatment. On discharge from the ward, treatment
may continue through referral to RACS outpatient or community services.
How you can access our service
Admission to the units is by doctor to doctor referral. This may happen internally, for example
following an admission to the acute wards of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, or from outlying hospitals or from home.
Where you can find us
We are located on the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Campus, in the Palmerston building. Mary Giles ward is on the
third floor and Geraghty Ward on the fourth floor of the Palmerston building. The nearest entrance is Gate 6, off Derby Road.

Visiting hours are very flexible, between 11am and 8pm. Within this flexibility, there may be times when you will be asked to wait for a short while.
