The Hip Protector Studies Unit is involved with continuing research, development,
education and the promotion of hip protector use Australia wide. Our current research project is titled
“Improving Adherence with the use of Hip Protectors”.
Who are we?
The Hip Protector Studies Unit is part of the Rehabilitation and Aged Care Service of HKHS. Our staff
consists of one Registered Nurse and one Research Assistant.
What do we do?
The Hip Protector Studies Unit provides free information about hip protectors to all users, carers
and clinicians. The co-ordinator can be available to provide information/education sessions if deemed
appropriate. Results from our research are regularly delivered at national and international
conferences and work produced by this unit has provided a substantial contribution to peer-review
literature and knowledge. Our current research project involves recruiting patients from Mary Giles
and Geraghty Wards at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital as well as residents of the Anglican Retirement
Village at Castle Hill.
