Richard Geeves Respite Services provide respite care to carers of people with dementia, through a day-centre program for people with dementia and
an in-home respite prorgram. The day centre program offered is flexible and the days of attendance are negotiated on an individual basis. Our In-home program,
known as the Time Off Program (TOPs), is available to those people preferring respite in a more familiar setting.
Who are we?
Richard Geeves Respite Services. We are part of the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged Care, Primary and Community and Allied Health, within
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service. Our staff have a variety of qualifications, and all have experience and genuine interest in dementia care.
What do we do?
-
The Richard Geeves Centre
provides respite care for people with dementia within a day centre program. The program
offered is flexible and the days of attendance are negotiated on an individual basis.
Clients using our Richard Geeves Centre
service are able to participate in an interesting program, which incorporates adult
focused activities. These include craft, golf, snooker, music therapy, cooking, gardening, discussions and
bus outings, plus more. Additionally, the centre is a secure facility, so that clients who have a
tendency to wander are safe.
- We provide TOPs for those people who require in-home care rather than day centre based care. A respite carer will provide care in your home for the person with dementia,
or take them for an outing if this is preferred.
- You can choose to use both our centre-based and our in-home services to support you- many carers use both forms of respite
- We hold a monthly carers meeting, with an invited guest speaker, to
assist carers with information and education regarding care.
The centre has strong links with the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), Healthy at Home and the
Memory Clinic, as well as other respite services in the community.
How you can access our service
A letter from your GP is requested, outlining the medical history and current diagnosis of the person with dementia.
If they have not had a formal assessment of memory problems this would be
highly recommended, but is not essential for service delivery.
Staff at the Richard Geeeves Centre assess applicants for suitability and day of attendance.
The day program at Richard Geeves Centre is available to residents of Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai LGAs.
The TOPs service extends to Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai, Ryde and Hunters Hill LGAs.
Bookings for either Richard Geeeves Respite Centre or TOPs can be made Monday to Friday on phone 9488 8694.
Where you can find us
The Richard Geeeves Centre is located at 8 Murrua Road, North Turramurra.
