The Diabetes Education Service of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service employs two Diabetes
Educators. The service works closely with the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Podiatry Department. We provide individual assessment and diabetes education to inpatients and outpatients with Diabetes.

What do we do?
The Diabetes Educators provide:
- Individual assessment and diabetes education to inpatients /outpatients with newly diagnosed or pre-existing Type 1, Type 2 and
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) their families and friends.
- Inservice education to HKHS nursing staff on matters relating to diabetes
- Limited inservice education to local Community Health Centres, community groups and Nursing Home/Hostel staff
- Requests for lectures from community groups and Nursing Home/Hostel staff will be considered. A fee may be charged for this service.
Other services include:
- Sale of Blood Glucose Meters
- Insulin stabilisation and training in the use of insulin delivery systems
- Monthly Diabetes Group Education Program
- Evening Diabetes Group Education Program
- Diabetes Group Review Programs
- Participation in Community Awareness programs
- Representation on Northern Sydney Central Coast Health diabetes advisory boards and working parties
- Hospital Policy/Chart development
- Educational resource development
- Quality Assurance program for blood glucose meters
- Seminars
How you can access our service
Referrals from a health service provider are preferred but are not essential. Bookings are essential.

First floor of the main building on the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital campus, above the X-ray department.

Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30 pm.

When you arrive
When you come in go to the main information desk (SwitchBoard), in the main building of the Hospital. Ask the Switchboard staff to page the Diabetes Educator. The Diabetes Educator will then meet you at the switchboard.
