The Child and Family Health Service provides a range of community-based services to parents in the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai local government areas.

Who are we?

We are the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Child and Family Health Service.

What do we do?

The Child and Family Health Service provides a range of services in the community to parents. Our services include:

• Early Childhood Health Centres
  Provide support and information on parenting issues for 0-5 years through individual clinic appointments, group programmes and information sessions.
  
  • Support & information on any parenting issues for children up to 5 years of age including:
    • Breast Feeding
    • Sleep & settling
    • Developmental health checks
    • Immunisation
    • Child behaviour & management
    • Postnatal issues including postnatal distress/depression (PND)
    • Domestic violence
    • Domestic violence
    • Parenting & care of your child
    • Infant, child & Family Nutrition
    • Maternal Health
    • Pregnancy & family wellbeing
    • Community networking & resources
  
  
  • Group programs:
    A range of group programs & information sessions are conducted throughout the service. For example: support groups for new parents, toddler issues, age specific information & treatment groups for parents experiencing Post Natal Depression.

  • The Early Parenting Program
    In addition to routine consultations all families with new babies are offered:
    • A home visit for the first visit
    • The opportunity to attend the Early Parenting Support Group from birth to 12 weeks of age
    • Parent information sessions for children 5 –9 months of age
    • Centre consultations for developmental health checks & support



• Hornsby Child Health Centre



• Koala Family Care Centre
  This service is provided to families living in the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai local government areas. It offers assistance for families during pregnancy and after birth for parents experiencing parenting issues including infant feeding issues, understanding sleep patterns and feelings of Post Natal Depression (PND). The service is provided through home visits, telephone and /or centre consultations.



• School Health Service
  

  Offers assistance to families of school age children including:

  • Information re transition to school
  • Healthy tips for starting school
  • Consultations re health issues impacting on schooling
  • Referral & liaison with other services

  Representatives from schools & childrens services can contact the service for support with:

  • Specific child health issues
  • Accessing health information & resources
  • Health promoting schools initiatives, such as Healthy canteen & NSW Canteen Association Awards
  • Health policy consultation
  • Health resources
  • Professional development for teachers & carers



• Paediatric Asthma Education Service
  This service is provided to families with children up to 18 years old with asthma living in the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai local government areas It offers advice to parents on the management of asthma, which includes monitoring of asthma, discussion of triggers to asthma, and use of puffers/spacers. This service is provided through hospital and/or home visits.

How you can access our service

Access is made by clients or health professional directly contacting the service they require. No referral is necessary for Early Childhood Health Centres.

For some services you need to reside in the Hornsby or Ku-ring-gai local government areas and to access Koala Family Care Centre you do need a referral from a health professional.

What are our hours?

Generally 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Some services and centres are part time. For these services and centres the information will be on their answering service.
