Footprint decanting has begun...

We're getting ready to start work on the new RNS Hospital and Community Health Services buildings later in 2008.

The redevelopment will consolidate 53 buildings into two purpose-built facilities for 21st century healthcare.

In preparation for the start of work on our new hospital buildings, we're moving most of our research and education community into the new Kolling Building from September 2008.

The relocations will not affect clinical operations in the main hospital building (Brown Building and Douglas Building) at this stage.

This will allow us to demolish a large number of small, outdated buildings in the middle of site and clear the "footprint" for the new main hospital and community health buildings.

Some departments currently located on the "footprint" site will not be moving into the Kolling Building - in the future they will be located in the new hospital building, or in some other location. These departments may need to move temporarily to an interim site until their final site is determined, or until the new hospital building is finished.

If you are affected by the decanting, your healthcare team will advise you and provide you with information about the relocation.

Even if you are not directly affected, there may be some unavoidable disruption or inconvenience as we manage the challenges of such a major project on a busy inner city site.

You will be advised well in advance of any possible changes or disruptions whenever possible.

While we will do our best to minimise any impact, there will be some inconvenience from time to time.

We appreciate your cooperation during this busy time.

What's happening on site?

The map below shows the current main hospital building (red) and the new Kolling Building for research and education (blue). In the centre of the site, orange buildings are to be vacated and the site cleared for the redevelopment.
