The NSW Government has allocated
$212 million to redevelop Gosford and Wyong Hospitals under the
Area’s Health Access Plan.
The new hospital being built on the Wyong Hospital
site
will almost double the size of the existing facility providing
significantly increased capacity for the Shire’s rapidly
growing population.
When completed the new development will transform
Wyong
Hospital into one of the most modern in NSW and enhance its
role as the major acute hospital in the Wyong Shire.
Construction of the new hospital is expected
to be complete at the end of 2004.
Features of the new
hospital include:
• A new and expanded
Emergency Department
• New Medical and
Surgical Wards
• Six new Operating Theatres
(including two Endoscopy theatres)
• An extended Medical Imaging,
Pathology and Pharmacy Service
• New Outpatients Clinics
• A High Dependency Unit
• Education facilities
• Carparking which is located close
to Emergency, Outpatients and the Main Entrance
The new facility will be progressively opened
from 2004. On completion of the redevelopment
Wyong Hospital will have a total of 319 beds.
A $10 million Mental Health Centre has been completed at Wyong
Hospital. The facility has
three specialist areas and will provide 25 Adult Acute beds,
15 Older Persons beds and
10 High-Level observation beds when fully operational.
Wyong Mental Health Centre will open in stages.
