Emergency Information

Health services on the Central Coast are undergoing their largest
expansion ever. The Health Access Plan is aimed at giving our
growing population better access to a greater range of health
services. There will be less need for people to travel outside the
area for many specialist services.

The allocation of over $200 million in capital funding by the State
Government will see our health services transform into one of the
most modern in the State and increase our capacity to treat our
rapidly growing population.

Better Hospitals

Both Gosford and Wyong Hospitals will be redeveloped to
incorporate the newest design so they are capable of delivering the
very latest in health care. Gosford Hospital will remain the Principal
Referral Hospital on the Central Coast. Wyong Hospital will double
in size to enhance its status as a major acute care facility.

More Jobs

The redevelopments will create hundreds of extra jobs during and
after construction. Over 800 extra staff will be employed by the
Health Service to deliver services. These include nursing, clinical,
technical, community health and support positions.

Better Access to Specialist Services

People with heart disease conditions can now access a new
Cardiac Angiography Unit at Gosford Hospital reducing the need
for patients to travel to Sydney for diagnostic tests.

At Wyong Hospital a 15 bed Drug Treatment Centre is providing
rehabilitation treatments for people with alcohol and other
drug dependencies.

Wyong Mental Health Centre is improving access to inpatient care
for those in our community with a mental illness.

A new dental clinic at Woy Woy Hospital is providing improved
dental facilities.

Services Closer to our Communities

New community health centres have already been opened at
Lake Haven, Long Jetty, Wyong township and Erina. A Child & Family
Health Centre has also been established in Gosford CBD. These centres
bring health services much closer to local communities and provide
greater support for young families, older people and youth.

The expansion of health services will deliver major health, social
and economic benefits to this region.
