The NSW Government has allocated $212 million
to redevelop Gosford and Wyong Hospitals under the
Area’s Health Access Plan.
Gosford Hospital will be transformed into one
of the most
modern in NSW. This will further enhance its role as a major
teaching hospital on the Central Coast.
Construction is well advanced with the first new facilities due
to open at the late end of 2004.
The redevelopment involves the demolition of
parts of the current medical wards and older
sections of the hospital to make way for a new consolidated clinical
building which will
provide accommodation for:
• A new and expanded Emergency Department
• New Medical and Surgical Wards and Outpatients Clinics
• Ten new Operating Theatres (including two Endoscopy Theatres)
• An enhanced Paediatric Unit
• A Cardiac Angiography Unit
• New kitchen
• Carparking that is located close
to Emergency, Main Entrance
and Outpatients Clinics
The Cardiac Angiography Unit
is already complete. It provides
cardiac diagnostic testing for people
who experience chest pain,
unstable angina and other heart disease conditions.
When completed, the new hospital building will
consolidate services on the present site and provide easier access
for patients, visitors and staff.
The new facility will be progressively opened
from 2004 as each stage is completed.
During the redevelopment the hospital will
continue to provide all current services.
