Bringing health services closer to where people
live
has been an important strategy of Central Coast
Health. This includes decentralising community
health services that do not need to be located in
major hospital sites.
The result has been the development of a larger
network of
health facilities across the Central Coast with the establishment
of satellite services such as renal dialysis, child and family
health and community nursing away from our acute care
Hospitals. Access to services will be improved and people will
not need to travel to other areas for care in many cases.
Community health is a vital part of the health
care system and focuses on maintaining good
health, or intervening before health problems become acute as
well as providing primary care
and other services not requiring hospitalisation.
In the past three years new community health centres
have been opened at Long Jetty and
Lake Haven, Wyong township and Erina. In addition a Child and
Family Health Centre has
been established in Gosford CBD.
Community Health Centres
provide an important
range of health services
for young children,
youth, women and
older people.
The new community
health centre at Wyong
township also provides
economic benefits to the CBD
with over 60 full time staff being employed.
Central Coast Health also operates other community
health centres at Toukley,
Wyong Hospital, Woy Woy Hospital, Kincumber and Mangrove Mountain.
